In-Class Student Work at the Whiteboard

Below the reader will find examples of students' in-class work on homework-style problems. This work provides concrete examples of of how my teaching philosophy is realized in the classroom. In particular, my philosophy places a high importance on providing in-class opportunities for instructor-guided practice along with peer collaboration in a classroom community where students are willing to engage with both the material and with their peers.

These photos feature board work from my Calculus I, Probability & Statistics, and Culinary Math courses.

MTH 251: Calculus I. In sequential order, these photos tell the entire story of the course, from limits to derivatives to integrals.

MTH 243: Probability & Statistics. The work below is from from a mini data-collection project and collaboration on some homework-style problems in probability.

MTH 81: Culinary Mathematics. Students in this class become experts in converting between various units of measure including weight and volume. These budding culinary professionals would have no trouble ordering specialized ingredients from abroad where the units of measure differ from our U.S. standard units.
