Chapter 5: Converting Mixed Measures Worksheet

Unit Conversions: Today we continue the topic of translating from any unit of measure to another. Today we discuss mixed measures.

Mixed Measures

A mixed measure is a quantity stated in terms of two units. This is often a unit with a subunit.

Example: "9 pounds 7 ounces."

Dealing With Mixed Measures

Example: You need 36 pounds 5 ounces of imported cheese. How many full kilograms of cheese should you order?

Step 1: Convert the mixed measure (36 pounds 5 ounces) to a single measure (in this case pounds).

Step 2: Convert the single measure to the desired unit (in this case kilograms).

Example: 10 quarts 3 cups is equal to how many liters?

Example: 3 pints 93 tablespoons is equal to how many gallons?

Example: 4 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons is what percent of a cup?

Example:$19\frac{3}{4}$ pints and $9 \frac{1}{4}$ cups is equal to how many quarts?
